Here we are on the home stretch! Lots of finishing up happening this month and
next. Our class is in charge of the
Living Rosary presentation on May31 at 9:30. Your child may be bringing home a
reading to practice for the celebration.
Please practice at home to help reinforce what we are doing here. If your child is not reading, they will be a
special bead on our living rosary.
Everyone is invited to attend this presentation.
This month we will be going swimming with the
grade 3 class. We will plan to walk to
the pool and back if possible. Any
drivers would have to have their driver’s abstract done before they could drive
any student besides their own. If you
are willing to do this, please go to the Taber Licensing office and the
school will pay for it this year. Let me
know if you need more information.
Swimming dates and times:
Wednesday, May
2: 11-12
Thursday, May 10: 1:30-2:30
Wednesday, May 16: 11-12
June 1: timeTBA
We will also be walking to 9 AM mass on May
24. Our class was very attentive and
well-behaved the last time we went, which is great! Please join us if you can. We would love to have another adult walk and
sit with us.
This month we will be
learning/reading/researching/writing about/doing art/ and singing about
dinosaurs! We will need a shoebox and
lid for our dioramas that we will be making at the end of this unit. Please try to find one for the beginning of
June. Please do not send it until we ask
again, as we have nowhere to store 23 shoeboxes! Also, our field trip in June will be to
Warner to the dinosaur site. I’m not
sure what day, but I’ll keep you posted.
In LA we continue word work in our phonics pages,
and spelling work.
In math we are continuing with subtraction, now
with regrouping and using mental math to try to do much of our computations to
show that we understand what we are doing when we add or subtract. Speed drills will continue, and we’ll be
making more flashcards to have at home and at school to practice our facts to
18 minus. Please have your child put
their envelope of facts back in their front agenda pocket after each time you
use them at home. Whenever we have a few
minutes we practice here at school too.
Coming up drills will be from 18, so lots more practice is needed.
In social we are finishing “Looking at
People”. We will have another check-up
on Traditions on Thursday. What a great
job on the last check-up for most students!
Keep up the great homework habit!
We are then moving into “Looking at Work”.
In science our unit ”Liquids” will be coming home
to study for a check-up very soon. We
will then be starting “Buoyancy and Boats”.
Watch for requests for building boats materials coming home later this
month. We will need a 2L milk carton so please check with friends and
family if you don’t buy milk in this size.
(I don’t!) Also, we will be having Scientists in School again on May 10
for a Bug presentation. If you are
available to help out from 8:30- 12:00ish, please let me know.
Check the school calendar for other important
dates this month.
If you know your child is going to be absent ahead
of time for any reason, please let me know so I
can schedule testing and check-ups so that no one misses any. It’s very difficult to catch-up students for
testing as it is done orally.
Also, if your child is sick or absent for other
reasons, please call the school as soon as possible in the morning.
